Passport / Visa Requirements

Travelers need a visa to enter Laos and can acquire one in the country if they enter through certain customs areas. To obtain a visa you need two passport-style photos of yourself, a valid passport with at least six months and one page remaining to be stamped. Tourists can learn more about the process on the website of the Laotian Embassy to their country. American citizens can use the  U.S State Department's website as an additional reference. 

Need to Know

Severe Weather Monsoon rains last from June to November in Laos this wet time of year may make travel more difficult in certain areas. 

Safety Concerns Laos is a fairly safe place to travel. Keep valuables out of sight and use normal precautions to protect yourself and your belongings. 

Health Concerns:  Speak with your doctor before traveling to Laos to get updates of vaccines or other health precautions you should take. Bring a water filter along with you and use it to purify your drinking water, brush your teeth and wash your food.
