Leeward Islands at a Glance

Get ready for some fun in the Leeward Islands. Whether you crave an all-inclusive resort destination, a jungle trek, a sailing voyage or scuba diving, there's an island that will best suit your vacation plans.

Settle in to your resort accommodations on the U.S. Virgin Islands and enjoy another cloudless Caribbean winter's day. The British Virgin Islands are a bit less developed, but can still accommodate resort seekers. Mountainous views, rough rocks, aquamarine waters and pretty British-Caribbean villages give visitors a range of sight-seeing and athletic opportunities to pursue.

On French-speaking Guadeloupe, experience a mishmash of Parisian and Caribbean cuisine and snorkel in the Jacques Cousteau Preserve. Have a blast in Dominica exploring volcanoes, bubbling rivers and plopping mud pots. Under-developed Anguilla is another outdoor paradise with deep forests, pretty waterfalls and interesting beaches. Finally, if glamour is what you crave, join Hollywood stars and other notables on the island of Antigua.

Passport / Visa Requirements

Visa requirements differ from nation to nation. Check with the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to visit for details. American citizens can use the U.S State Department website as a starting place for researching travel requirements.

Need to Know

Severe Weather June to November is the Atlantic Hurricane season. Travelers during this time may encounter anything from increased thunderstorms and rain to violent tropical storms and hurricanes.

Safety Concerns Each island and area has its own safety concerns so it's a good idea to research before you go. Use your common sense and avoid leaving items unattended on the beach and in cars. Avoid flashing cash and keep your passport stowed in a hotel safe or in a money belt.

Health Concerns Travelers to the Leeward Islands should purify local water before drinking it in most locations. Speak with your doctor at least two months before your trip to schedule any needed immunizations and to discuss health concerns. Insect repellent, sunscreen and plenty of water will keep travelers healthy and comfortable in the Caribbean heat.
